Vincent Van Gogh
by Phillip and Alieu

1853, a genius was born,
1890, death, and mourn.
Vincent, aka van Gogh
Love, he couldn't get enough.

A Netherlands native,
When it came to painting,
He was creative.
Between he and Gauguin,
He was the smartest,
His point of view
Made him become an artist.

Hearing voices
Was his fear,
For love,
He cut off his ear.

Sadly he put his heart to rest,
In 2003, we consider him the best!

Vincent Van Gogh
by Ricky

2 am he wakes with a shiver
Pouting,
Then weeping,
Then crying a river.

Painting in the wind
And the pitch of night
Holding on his hat
With all his might.

He cut off his ear
To give to his love
Why not just
Give her a turtle dove.

He loved her yes,
But did she love him
No, what next
He’ll cut off a limb.

Another life taken
By the end of a gun
Lived life crazily
Wonder why he was shunned.

Never forgotten or neglected
Answer me
Why by us
Was he rejected.

Van Gogh in the Cornfields

by Michaella

As he sits in the cornfields
With his canvas, paint, and brush
The crows fly down
And sit on his easel
Van Gogh takes out his gun
And fires into the air
The crows fly away with fright
As Van Gogh paints the scene.

Later that week he sat
In the cornfields with the crows
Who flew down fast
Van Gogh took out his gun
Pointed it at his stomach
Instead of the sky
And shot himself with depression

Van Gogh had a brother, Theo
Who died six months later
They were buried in the cornfields
With an overgrown tree
On top of them.

Vincent Van Gogh
by Joe and Thomas

He was born a weirdo,
Not a hero.
He wasn’t a lady’s man
And he couldn’t find a stand.
He asked his brother for some money,
But he never was really funny.
His paintings were great
But he drew a lot of hate.
His love so dear
He cut his ear.
He was insane,
And had a lot of pain.
He killed himself
And died in shame.

Crows in the Wheatfields

Van Gogh
by Michael and Hans

Van Gogh was a famous guy,
He painted things like the sky.
He scared crows with his gun,
But he didn’t do it for fun
He did it to paint the way they fly.

Reflections...

Jeanne writes… Today, an actor told us the life of Vincent Van Gogh. He wore a fake beard, but it looked real.  He took it off at the end. He told us things I didn’t know, even though I did a report on Van Gogh. He didn’t talk about his disease, which made him commit suicide. It was a great performance, but what I liked best were the pictures he showed.

Karishma writes …I think the presentation of Van Gogh by Mr. Hofstra was very impressive and he did a very good job. I would never able to do that because I would get really frightened and nervous. I also liked how he did all the makeup. I liked how he talked about the letters. The strange thing was that I read that he cut off his ear by his will but as Mr. Hofstra mentioned van Gogh cut his ear by an accident when he was shaving.

Maite writes… Today, we had a presentation from a professional theater actor that came to our school to talk about Vincent van Gogh’s life. He was acting really well and his clothes realistically came out nicely. We could tell that those clothes were worn at that time! I learned that Vincent van Gogh spent a very poor life and was not very happy. Luckily, his brother Theo helped him a lot with paying money for all he needed.

Roeland writes…. I like these paintings because I like how they look mysterious with the colors he uses. I can't believe that he became famous over one painting, Starry Night. I think it's also cool how he uses dark and not light because I am just more of a dark person. I don't like light paintings that much. His paintings have a lot of texture and expression. You can also tell that they are made with feeling.

Thank you,
Vincent,

for a memorable visit!
