"To whom much is given, much is expected."
Mr. Lanier asked the students about the meaning of this quote.

I thought that the quote meant that because we are so lucky and privileged to be in this school, we have to give something back to the local community in South Africa. I think that he wanted to make us realize that not many people in the world have the chance to get the best education there is. (Jasper) I believe that this quote means that if you are given a lot, you are expected to give back equal, if not more, of your talent to the world. This also means that if you are given talent at a particular subject, you are expected to help others with it so that they, too, can understand. What he said it meant was that if you are privileged, and are fairly well off, then you are supposed to help the people who are less well off than you are. (Grace)
I thought this quote meant that if you are given an opportunity to do something, you are expected to try your best to succeed. His speech inspired me never to give up on my dreams, and to believe in myself no matter what anyone says. (Isabelle) I thought his speech was very motivational, and instead of his talking about his career and all the things he has achieved, he talked about things that make you a better person and help you in life.  (Christina)

Mr. Lanier also talked about P-R-I-D-E.

He also talked about something his dad used to tell him. His dad used to tell him the meaning of PRIDE, Positive mental attitude, Respect, Intelligent actions, Dream Dreams, Enthusiastic.  This also inspired me a lot, and it told me to be a better person than I am now. It also taught me to believe in myself at all times. (Joe)

He explained to us what pride stood for: P- Positive attitude, R- Respect, I- Intelligent choices, D- Dreaming dreams and E- Enthusiasm. I really thought about what he said, and was convinced that by following those key points you can make it to what you want to be in life. Yet, I still don’t know what I want to be!!  (Phillip)

For “Dreaming dreams” he had us close our eyes and breathe. He said to think about what we really want to achieve in life and the goals we would like to accomplish. I want to be a photographer because that’s what I love. Bob inspired me to do my best and try to accomplish my goal. (Samantha)

I think this is a good thing to remember -  to be a good person. Also this should be remembered in order to be an effective, positive person in life. (Scott)

Thank you,
Mr. Lanier,
for spending some time
with us!

…I know that I can make it and that I should never listen to any negative things people will say to me.  My brother said something very nice about my family. From now on I will work my hardest at school to achieve my goals in life.  (Alieu)
