Class meetings:

Daily— 45 minutes in room MS14

 

Course description:

          My goal is to keep students learning through class discussions, report writing, exploring relevant historical events through to current conflicts and situations globally.  We will complete group projects that allow students to live the past, to taste and feel events in a real way and learn history with their own personal knowledge.  Writing will be frequent in this class.

 

Assessment:

          The course grade is inclusive of the following:

 

          -Written work                                  25%

          -Tests and Quizzes                          25%

          -Homework/Class Preparation          20%

          -Research Assignments                    20%

          -Class/Group Participation               10%

          The class requires a high level of motivation and each student(s) attitude toward the subject and material will correlate with final grades.

Discipline and Expectations:

          In the Eighth grade it is expected that you will respect classmates as equals.  Negative comments are inexcusable and we should value the insight and interpretation of each individual in all our school activities.  All other expectations as designated in the AISJ student handbook will be adhered to.

 

Late Homework and Assignments:

          1 day-     25 points off score without excuse

          2 days-   50 points off score without excuse

          3 days-   75 points off score without excuse

          4 days-   no points received

Absent/Tardy Students:

·        It is your responsibility to find out what you have missed. The work must be submitted on the next day unless special circumstances are arranged in advance.

·        Should you miss a quiz/test, students need to schedule a make-up on your first day back to class.  If arrangements are not made in a timely manner, no credit will be recorded for the quiz or test.

Materials:

·        Books MUST be covered and will be checked often.

·        Pencils for tests unless special circumstances exist.

·        A notebook is required and must be neatly organized.  They will be examined periodically and contribute towards Homework/Class preparation grade percentage (%).

·        Outside materials for reports/projects will be designated in advance.
