10:30-11:30
Mine Tour
Social Studies-Students learned about the mines and its history. We learned how there were many dangers involved in working in the mines such as when there was a cave in, there was also a lot of dust that caused them to get sick. We also learned how they had their own seperate language that they needed to learn in order to work there.
11:30-12:00
Houses
English-Students viewed how miner owners lived. We realized that they had some pretty nice homes, and were surprised at how their houses look similar to some of the houses we have now. The houses were cozy and they were wealthy. We know that from seeing luxury items such as a piano, or a fire place.
12:00-1:30
Rides
Science-Students learned to calculate a ride's speed and velocity. We had a choice of either riding the Tower of Terror or the Anaconda. During the rides, we were to take times of how long the ride was, and then calculate its velocity by applying the formula: speed/velocity=distance/time.

Journal Reflections of Gold Reef City

The science experiment that Mr. Dasari thought of, using the Anaconda as a test subject to understand speed better, was a really cool idea.

The house of the mine manager was also really neat, and I was surprised that the people who ran the mines seemed so rich. I also thought that it was rather interesting that the pianos were so small, and there were so many of them. They were barely half the size of modern day pianos.

I found the rides very interesting. Mainly because of the fun involved, and because all of the rides are free, but also because of the science project, which was to measure the speed of a particular ride. It is a whole different thing to learn about science in a classroom with a textbook, than actually applying practice instead of only theory.

Then we went to visit one of the rich people's houses which were very nice to see. I was way shocked to see how rich some people could be! There, we described one of the rooms in the house. I decided to describe the bedroom which no one else did! There were a lot of items in that room!

I think that we learned most in the mines. We learned how they drilled the mines and how technology improved mining. In the houses we could see how the rich people of that time lived. I think that they should have also shown how the miners lived.
